The author (Marty Grant) is not related to Arthur H.
Crawford as far as can be determined.
Arthur H. Crawford was born ca 1798/99 per age of
61 on the 1860 census and 71 on 1870 census.) He was born in South Carolina, though
perhaps not in the Horry County region.
I have not been able to determine who Arthur's parents
were. Thomas Crawford seems to be the only available suspect so far. I have not done an exhaustive search of the records, so the answer
may be out there somewhere. I believe Arthur to be a brother to
David E. Crawford (1801) mainly because David named one of his sons
"Arthur H." and they were the only two Crawford families in Horry at the
time.
Arthur should have been with his parents for the 1800
census, aged about 1 year or less, so he should have been in the under
10 age group. Horry County did not yet exist in 1800 being part of
Georgetown District at that time. There were no Crawfords in Georgetown in
1800.
Arthur would have been about 11 years old by the 1810
census, so he should have been in the 10 and up but under 16 age group. There were no Crawfords in Horry
at all in 1810. There was a Thomas Cranford listed though and that
is probably a typo for I've found other records showing him as a Crawford. Thomas had 3 boys in the correct age group. One of
them could be Arthur.
On 16 Sep 1819, Arthur H. Crawford and Samuel Floyd
witnessed a deed from Willis Rawls to Thomas Gerral. This is the earliest

He would have been about 21 by the 1820 census. There were no Crawfords in Horry
for the 1820 census (nor any Cranfords.) However, the 1819 deed above does seem to show that
Arthur was in Horry by this time. He may have been living with some other
family for the 1820 census.
Arthur H. Crawford married Clarkey B. (---?)
sometime between 1820 and 1830, probably close to 1830. Clarkey was born
ca 1806/07 (per age of 53 on 1860 census, and 63 on 1870
census.) I don't know her maiden name.
Arthur was listed on the 1830 census in Horry. His brother
David may have been living with him, or at least someone that age was
listed there. There was also a female aged 60-69, who could be his mother, or perhaps not. It could just as easily be Arthur's mother-in-law.
There is no way to know for sure.

Arthur was listed on the 1840 census in Horry District. His brother
David was there also, but they were not listed near each other.

They were still in Horry District for the 1850 census. David and
family were listed too, but not nearby. Arthur's age is listed as 37
which is wrong, but that is a common census problem.

I was unable to find Arthur and Clarkey on the 1880 census. They may
have died in the 1870's.
