Revision History:
  • 21 Dec 2008 – Created by Marty Grant, relationship unknown.
Junius Davis was born ca 1814/15 per his age on the 1850 census (35). I don't know where he was born, though probably in Brunswick Co., NC. I don't know who his parents were for sure, but I think he may be a son of Thomas F. Davis of neighboring New Hanover Co., NC.

Junius would have been about 5 for the 1820 census, so he should be in the under 10 age group (born ca 1810/20). Bartholomew Davis, Wilson Davis, and William B. Davis all had at least one apparent son that age in 1820.

In 1830 Junius would have been about 15 years old, so he could be enumerated in the 10-14 age group (c1815/20) or in the 15-19 group (c1810/15). Thomas Davis had one apparent son in the 10-23 age group (a "free colored" family). Richard Davis also had sons that age, also "free colored." This could be Junius, though I've seen no records indicating he was anything other than "white." No other Davis in 1830 had anyone in the proper age group that could be Junius.

In 1840 Junius would have been around 25. None of the Davis households in Brunswick ("white" or "free colored") included a male his age.

Junius Davis married Anne S. (---) sometime before ca 1849 presumably in Brunswick Co., NC. I found no marriage record for them. She was born ca 1828/29 in NC, maiden name unknown.

They are on the 1850 census in Brunswick in North West District. The only other Davis in that district was my ancestor Cornelius Davis, but they weren't listed near each other.

Junius Davis was also listed on the 1850 census Slave Schedule. He had 32 slaves. That makes me wonder if he was perhaps a son of Thomas F. Davis of neighboring New Hanover Co., NC, for he had a large plantation in Brunswick with numerous slaves.

Junius and family were still in the same place for the 1860 census. Nathan Davis (c1832) is just three houses away, relationship unknown.

Junius is listed on the 1860 census Slave Schedule with 29 slaves.

I wasn't able to find Junius or his family on the 1870 census.

Children of Junius Davis and Ann S. (---). The 1850 and 1860 census records indicate four children. I've only made a small attempt to trace them.
