> Abram Evans
The author (Marty Grant)
is not related to Abram Evans as far as can be proven. It is possible (but
not too likely) that
he is related to my ancestor William
Evans (c1813).
There was another man named
Abram Evans (c1826) in the same area,
probably a 1st cousin to this one. There is the potential for mixing up their
records, though I think I've got them fairly straight.
Abram (or "Abraham") Evans was born ca 1820/21
(per 1850 census) in North Carolina, presumably Ashe, now Alleghany County.
I have not positively identified his parents, but
I'd say he has to be either a son of Barnabas
Evans (c1769) or William Evans (1770/80)
and Alcy ---, as both of these men (presumed brothers) had an unknown son
Abram's age per the early census records. I'm leaning towards William as his
father, but I have no real evidence except for the 1840 census (see below).
Other researchers show this Abraham/Abram as a son of William and Alcy, though I
don't know what the proof is.
For the 1830 census Abram Evans would have been about 9 years old. Both
Barnabas and William Evans each had one son with them that year aged 5-9 (born
ca 1820/25).
Abram would have been about 19 by the 1840 census. An Abraham Evans was
listed as head of household that year, and it may very well be this Abram. The
other one was too young. If this 1840 entry is for this Abram, then that makes
me think he is William and Alcy's son, because Abram had an older woman living
with him in 1840 who was Alcy's age. This isn't direct proof, but it is strongly
suggestive. If this is the same Abram in 1840, which male is he in the
household? The one aged 20-29 (born ca 1810/20) or the one aged 15-19 (born ca
1820/25). Which ever one he was, the other was probably a sibling.

1 Female(s) 5-9 (1830-1835) Sister?
Sometime before ca 1841, Abram Evans married Elizabeth ---.
No marriage record was found. She was born ca 1809/10 (per 1850 census) in North
Carolina. Osborne family researcher Farrell Horton tells me that Elizabeth was
an Osborne, daughter of Elias and Sarah (Sizemore) Osborne.
They were in Ashe County for the 1850 census. They were not listed near any
other Evans families.

In 1859 Alleghany County was formed from the section of Ashe County where
this family resided.
Abram and family were listed on the 1860 census in Alleghany County. No
townships were listed, but their Post Office was listed as Gap Civil.
David Evans, a possible sibling was just a
few households away.

Abram Evans died on 27 May 1862 in Civil War (per Farrell

Elizabeth was still in Alleghany for the 1870 census. She was just a few
houses from John Evans (c1807) a
probable brother of Abram's.

Children of Abram and
Elizabeth (Osborne) Evans.
Abram Evans and Elizabeth had three children as proven by the various
census records. Farrell Horton provided information to me on who each
child married.
