North Carolina
My
interest in Evans in North Carolina is strictly in the
western part of the state, more
specifically the mountain counties. My interest is almost totally
pre-1860. I do not have data more recent than that, nor am interested
in any.
Alleghany County, NC [formed
1859 from Ashe]
Ashe County, NC [formed 1799 from
Wilkes]
- Abraham
Evans (c1821) and Elizabeth Osborne of NC (Ashe, Alleghany)
- Abraham
Evans (c1826) and Mahala Edwards of NC (Ashe, Alleghany)
- Amanda J. Evans (c1843) and John H. Sexton
married here 7 Dec 1856. She is a daughter of Samuel and Mary of
Grayson Co., VA.
- Barnabas
Evans (c1769-1852) of NC (Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany)
-
Barnabas Evans (c1818) and Elizabeth --- of NC (Ashe,
Alleghany) and WV (Wyoming)
- Daniel Evans and Usley Welch
married here 13 Oct 1857. I don't know who this is. There was a
Daniel Evans (c1837) in Grayson Co., VA in 1860, with wife "Mary"
and one child 11 months old. That could be them, but perhaps not.
They were next door to his parents Samuel Evans (c1796) and Mary
(c1805). I don't know if this is the same Daniel who married in
Ashe, but it probably is. Their family was in Smyth Co, VA in 1850.
- David Evans (1800/10) * In
Ashe Co, NC in 1830, not found in 1840 or 1850. This may be same
David born 1798 in Ashe, who was son of Barnabas (1769), and who
moved to Kendall Co., IL and died there in 1845.
- David Evans
(c1819) and Margaret Whitaker and Elizabeth Wiles of NC
(Ashe, Alleghany)
- Eliza Ann Evans (c1839 VA) and Alfred Beadwell
married here 15 Feb 1855. She is a daughter of Samuel and Mary Evans
of Smyth and Grayson Co., VA. I found them on the 1860 census in
neighboring Grayson Co., VA.
- James Evans
(c1797) and Margaret Pugh of NC (Ashe, Alleghany)
- Matilda Evans (c1805 NC) and
Isaac Griffith married here 16 Aug 1828. Listed on 1830
census in Pike Co., IN next door to William Evans (1760/70) (not
same one married to Alcy ---). Listed on 1840 census in Pike Co., IN
next to Kinton Evans (1810/20). By 1850 Griffiths were in Daviess
Co., KY. An assumption would be that Matilda is a daughter of
William (1760/70) and a sister to Kinton Evans (1810/20). But who
were they and what is their connection to Ashe Co., NC? There are
others associated with this family in Pike Co., IN: James Evans
(c1795 NC) and wife Ruth; Wiley Evans (c1797 NC); and William W.
Evans (1810/20). This family was obviously in Ashe Co., NC in 1828
when Matilda married, but perhaps they just passed through there
briefly. More research is needed. Patricia Evans-Plough (
) is
interested in this Evans family. She is from Wiley Evans.
- Richard Evans (c1827 NC) *
Listed here in 1850 with A. J. Vanoy and Polly Vanoy family.
Race Code listed as "M" (Mulatto).
No other info.
- Samuel S. S. Evans (c1796
VA) and Mary (---). In Wythe Co., VA in 1840; in Smyth Co.,
VA in 1850, and in Grayson Co., VA in 1860. Several of their
children married in Ashe Co., NC.
- Synthy Evans (c1829) and Hiram Hill
(c1824
NC) married here 21 Oct 1848. They are listed in Ashe on the 1850 census:
Hiram Hill, 26 and Cinthia, 21, one child John 2/12. James Evans
(1797) had an unknown daughter this age.
-
Theophilus Evans (bef 1750-aft 1799) of NC (Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany)
- William
Evans (1770/80-1830/40) and Alcy --- of
NC (Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany)
-
William Evans (c1809) and Mary --- and Nancy --- of NC
(Ashe, Alleghany) and WV (Wyoming)
