I (Marty Grant) am not related to Barney Grant as far as I know. I am very interested in him though.
Barney Grant was born ca 1819/20 in England. He was found in Wilmington in New Hanover Co, NC for the 1850 census. He was listed in a Hotel with several other people. His occupation was listed as "Engineer". I would guess that he immigrated in the 1840's, or perhaps he was here before then, but it is hard to say.

I didn't find Barney on the 1860 census, so perhaps he had returned to England, or moved out of NC, or died.
