William Hensley was born ca 1817/18 (per 1850 census) in Tennessee (per 1850 census), county unknown. I don't know who William Hensley's parents are, but I'd bet he is a brother to Joseph Hensley (c1826 TN) who was just a couple of pages away from him in 1850. They were both born in Tennessee, and close enough in age. They may not be brothers, but it seems a reasonable guess that they could be. In 1820, William would probably have been home with his parents, and aged about 2 years old, so enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20). He was probably still in Tennessee at that time though I don't know where. William Hensley would have been about 12 years old by the 1830 census. He should be enumerated in the age 10-14 category (born ca 1815/20). He was probably still in Tennessee that year with his parents, but I don't know where. William Hensley married Malinda --- sometime before ca 1838, presumably in Arkansas somewhere, or possibly back in Tennessee. Malinda was born ca 1818/19 in Tennessee. I don't know her maiden name. I did not find William Hensley on the 1840 census in Arkansas or Tennessee. Their oldest children were born ca 1838 and 1840 in Arkansas somewhere, according to the 1850 census record. Since they lived in Newton County in 1850, it is reasonable to assume they were in that area back in 1840, but Newton was not created until 1842 from the southern portion of Carroll County. However, the 1840 census for Carroll County shows no Hensleys. I just don't know where they were in 1840. In 1850, William and family were in Newton County, Arkansas in Jackson District. Possible brother Joseph Hensley was 2 pages away.
