Thomas Hensley (c1812) and Junita --- of TN and Pike Co, MO and Napa Co, CA

I (Marty Grant) am not related to Thomas Hensley as far as I know.

Thomas Hensley was born ca 1811/12 (per 1850 census) in Tennessee (per 1850 census). I don't know what county he was born in.

I don't know who Thomas' parents are. By 1850 he was living in California in Napa County, with no other Hensleys there. He had lived in Missouri previously, but I don't know what county. If this is the same Thomas Hensley who was in Pike Co, MO in 1840 (and I think he is), then he may be a son of the apparent widow Martha Hensley (1780/90) who was there in 1840 also.

Thomas Hensley would have been about 8 years old by the time of the 1820 census, so should be enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20). I don't know if his family was in Tennessee that year or perhaps in Missouri already (not likely, but possible).

Thomas would have been about 18 years old by the time of the 1830 census, so should be enumerated in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/15). I don't know if his family was in Tennessee that year or perhaps in Missouri already. There were lots of Hensleys in both states in 1830, so without further clues, I don't know how to narrow down possible parents. There were no Hensleys in Pike Co, MO in 1830.

Thomas Hensley married Junita --- sometime before ca 1836, possibly in Pike County, Missouri. She was born ca 1813/14 in Kentucky. I don't know her maiden name.

They (or at least I think it is them) are listed on the 1840 census in Pike County, Missouri. No other Hensleys were nearby, but an apparent widow Martha Hensley (1780/90) was there, but not listed close by. Thomas was listed between John B. Smith and William H. Huffman.

Sometime between ca 1848 and 1849, Thomas and family left Missouri and settled in Napa County, California in the famed Napa Valley. The 1850 census showed him as a "Farmer", and not a Miner, like so many others who went to California. It also showed him with $20,000 worth of real property, which is a lot. No other Hensleys were in Napa County, and there were only five other Hensleys in all of California that year, all of them were miners, lured to California by the Gold Rush.

Sometime in the 1850's, Thomas Hensley moved his family west to Santa Cruz County, California, which is a coastal county.

They were listed on the 1860 census in Santa Cruz County. No other Hensleys were in that county that year, except possibly for their next door neighbor. His name was written over. It looks like William Healey, but it might have actually been "Hensley", and if so, this man might be a brother to Thomas. He was born ca 1818/19 in Kentucky. For the sake of not losing track of William, I'm including his listing below also just in case.

I don't have them in 1870 yet.

I didn't find them in 1880.

Children

Thomas and Junita had at least six children per the various census records. I don't have much additional data on any of them so far.
