William Hensley was born ca 1824 in KY per the 1850 census. He wasn't too far away from Lewis Hensley and John Hensley, who could be his brothers. By 1860 William and family had moved to neighboring (then) Morgan Co, KY.

The 1850 and 1860 census show KY as William's birth place, though 1870 and 1880 show NC as his birth place.
