Abram Hensley (c1837) and Ellender McMahan of Yancey Co, NC[Commentary] [Children] [Researcher List] [Register Report] [A Note about sources] [How to contact me] [Home] I (Marty Grant) am not related to Abram Hensley as far as I know. Abram Hensley was born ca 1836/37 in Yancey Co, NC. He is most likely a son of Blanchey Hensley (she was living with him in 1870). Abram was not found on the 1850 census. He was probably residing with some other family as a hired laborer, or perhaps off in school somewhere, and just not listed on the census. He was not home with his mother Blanchey in 1850. On 1 Mar 1853, Abram Hensley married Ellender McMahan in Yancey Co, NC. Ellender was born ca 1835/36, presumably in Yancey Co, NC. I do not know who Ellender's parents were. Although there were McMahan's in Yancey Co, NC in 1850, none of them had a daughter named "Ellender" listed with them. Abram and family were listed on the 1860 census in Yancey Co, NC just a few houses from his mother Blanchey.
