M. Hensley (c1815) and M.A. --- of Decatur Co, TN[Commentary] [Children] [Researcher List] [Register Report] [A Note about sources] [How to contact me] [Home] I (Marty Grant) am not related to M. Hensley as far as I know. Unfortunately, I only have one record for this family (1860 census), and the census taker only gave the first initial for all family members. That means that I don't have any of the given names for a single one of this family. However, I'll work with what I've got. "M. Hensley" was born ca 1814/15 (per 1860 census), in Tennessee (per 1860 census), county unknown. I don't know what "M" stands for, but possibilities include: Michael, Micajah, Macksfield, Madison, Martin, etc. All of which are known Hensley given names beginning with "M". Of course, it might be none of the above. I don't know who M. Hensley's parents were. It is possible that he is related to the Joel Hensley (c1813) family who was also in Decatur County. I've speculated that Joel was a son of John Hensley (c1780), and M. Hensley could also fit in John's family, but this is just speculation. Presumably, M. Hensley would have been home with his parents for the 1820, 1830 and 1840 census. I did not find "M. Hensley" on the 1850 census. M. Hensley married M. A. --- before ca 1851. With initials like "M. A." the name "Mary Ann" comes to mind, but that might not be correct. She was born ca 1829/30 in Tennessee. They were listed on the 1860 census in Decatur County, Tennessee in District 12. (The Joel Hensley family was in District 3). Unfortunately the census taker only listed their initials.
