> William Hensley
The author (Marty Grant) is not related to William Hensley
as far as can be proven. There is certainly a possibility that he is
related to my ancestor Larkin
Hensley (c1761-1806).
Special thanks to Ruthe Muench Schreibman for data shared on this
family.
William Hensley was born in the 1600's or quite
possibly in the 1500's, though I
don't know exactly when. If he is the same William who came to Virginia in
1635, he was born ca 1611/12.
I don't know where William was born, whether in Virginia
or England. It seems likely that he was an immigrant to Virginia from
England. There is an immigration record that may refer to him.
I don't know who William's parents were, nor have I found
any record indicating any other Hensleys he may be related to.
A Wm Hindsley age 23 was transported to Virginia in
1635 in the "Safety". [New England Historical and Genealogical
Register, Vol. XV, 1861.]
I don't know if that record is for this same man or not
but it certainly could be.
On 28 Apr 1642, Samuel Chaundler of London, Merchant, sold
a cow to William Hensley of Virginia, Planter. [County Court Records of Accomack-Northampton, Virginia 1640-1645,
by Susie M. Ames, 1973 p. 176.]
William Hensley made his Will in Northampton Co.,
VA on 4 Jan 1654/1655. He mentioned no wife or children. He left
everything to Ann Stephens wife of William Stephens and her son and
daughter William and Anne. No relationship between them and William
Hensley was given.
As I mentioned earlier, I've found no record showing William Hensley
connected with any other Hensleys. He lived in Northampton County which is
on the eastern shore of Virginia.
Children: William Hensley apparently had
no children, or at least he mentioned none in his Will, nor have any other
records been found showing him with children (or even a wife.)
