Benjamin Jenkins (c1828) and Marinda --- of Onslow Co, NC[Commentary] [Children] [Researcher List] [Register Report] [A Note about sources] [How to contact me] [Home] I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Benjamin Jenkins, but I'm sure he is somehow closely related to my ancestor Osborne Jenkins (c1803). Benjamin Jenkins was born ca 1827/28 presumably in Onslow County, in the area that later became Stump Sound Township. His 1900 census entry gives his birth date as March 1820, which does not agree with all his other census entries, though the "March" part could be correct. I haven't yet been able to identify Benjamin's parents. He was not the only "Benjamin Jenkins" in Onslow County, so that complicates matters a little for it isn't always clear which record belongs to which Benjamin. For the 1830 census, Benjamin Jenkins would have been about 2 years old, so should be enumerated in the "under 5" age group (born ca 1825/30). Several Jenkins households had an apparent son that age, so one of these could be Benjamin's family: George H. Jenkins (c1803), James Jenkins (c1780), Lear Jenkins (1770/80), and Nancy Jenkins (c1800/10). There were a few others who had an apparent son that age, but they were already identified. For the 1840 census, Benjamin Jenkins would have been about 12 years old, so ought to be enumerated in the 10-15 age group (born ca 1825/30). A few households had an apparent son that age who is not yet identified: Nancy Jenkins (1800/10), and Thomas Jenkins (c1786), These were the only two with apparent sons Benjamin's age (excepting those who's sons that age are positively identified already). Benjamin Jenkins married Marinda --- before ca 1847 in Onslow Co, NC. I didn't find a marriage record for them, and so far, I have no clues as to her maiden name. The family was listed in Stump Sound District in Onslow County, NC on the 1850 census. They were three households from Osborne Jenkins (c1803).

Williams deeded something to Benjamin Jenkins. I don't know which Benjamin was being referred to as three of them were of age in 1853. I don't have the details of this deed yet. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 27 page 120) On 20 Dec 1855 Elijah Canady deeded something to Benjamin Jenkins Jr. I don't have the details of this deed yet. I'm not sure if this deed pertains to this Benjamin or to the other one: Benjamin W. Jenkins (1819). Benjamin Jenkins (c1798) would certainly be the "Sr", but either of these two could be "Jr". (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 27 page 431) In 1860, they were still in Stump Sound District as before.
