Documented Johnson / Johnston
Families
This page is a Table of Contents for
this surname. Each family link leads to a documented page for that particular
family. If names are listed with no links, then I have not created that page yet
but plan to at some future date.
The geographic scope of my
interest in the Johnson surname is limited to South Carolina, primarily
Horry and Marion County and neighboring counties. My time frame of
interest is the 1700's through ca 1930 for Horry and Marion, and only through ca
1850 for other counties in the area.
If you are interested in this surname
in other geographic areas and / or in later time periods then I probably have no
data to share at present.

could be the same person as John M. Johnson (c1846) son of
Gilbert L. Johnson (1818), but I
don't know if he is or not. I did not find John in 1870 Horry. John was
not with this Norman family in 1870 (Bucks Township). This could be

listed as an Attorney with an apparent brother Robert A. Johnson (c1846)

her in 1880 either. *
- Martha Johnson (c1830) *
here in 1850 with Mary James (c1794) who was an apparent widow. This might
be the same as Mary Johnson James, daughter of Joseph Johnson (1755/65)
(see his entry above). If so, then this Martha Johnson with her might be
her niece, daughter of one of Mary's brothers. I did not find Mary James,
nor Martha Johnson on the 1860 census in Horry. *
- Mary A. Johnson (c1814) * b. in
Horry, residing in Marion with William and Elizabeth Woodberry in 1850.

1840. There was a Thomas J. Johnson (c1827), also born NC who was here in
1860 and 1870, but not 1850. Could be same person? (See other Thomas'
