My Johnson FamilyAllen Warin Johnson (c1825-c1866) and Celia Floyd of SC (Horry County) Introduction - A History of my research on this family My Johnson Family - Data on my Johnson ancestors IntroductionI had been doing genealogy for several years before I found out about this Johnson line of mine. I had data back to my Great Great Grandparents Gabriel and Celia Edwards. However, I did not know Celia's correct maiden name. I had asked several of my older relatives about them, though they knew Gabriel (or "Gabe"), they had never known Celia, as she died before they were born. However, my Great Uncle Ira Campbell thought she was a Floyd. (Turns out he was wrong, but he was on the right track, as Gabe's first wife was a Floyd, and Celia's mother was a Floyd, so he had good reason for thinking she was a Floyd herself). For years I could find nothing on "Celia Floyd", wife of Gabriel Edwards. Finally, a few years ago, a cousin contacted me with and sent me a newspaper clipping on Gabriel Edwards, talking about how he was the first Mayor of Aynor, SC. This article mentioned that his wife was Celia "Johnson". This opened up the doors, and I found more on her pretty quickly after that. With the help of census records, and a couple of my Johnson and Edwards cousins, we found Celia was a child of Allen Warin Johnson and Celia Floyd. Allen W. Johnson has been the end of the line for a few years now. He was born ca 1825, and I have yet to figure out who his parents were. I'm still looking. Special thanks to Becky Maples, Lisa Gogan and others for sharing data on this family. * 13 April 2001 - I have just completed adding web pages for every Johnson family living in Horry District in 1850. I plan to document all those who where there in 1860 also (who weren't there in 1850). I used the 1790 through 1870 census to document these families, and also the cemetery records (which are online at the Horry County Historical Society) and a few other records that I had available. Much more data is probably available in the deeds and other records at the Court House, but I have not been there yet. My Johnson ancestorsMy earliest known ancestor was Allen Warin Johnson, born ca 1825 in Horry Dist, SC. He married ca 1851 to Celia Floyd Floyd (widow of Hugh Floyd, and daughter of Pugh Floyd and Jane Graham). Allen and Celia had several children, including my Great Great Grandmother Celia Caroline Johnson, born 1855. Celia married Gabriel E. Edwards, ca 1873 in Horry Co, SC.
