Formation and Divisions

Henderson County was created in 1838 from Buncombe County.

Polk County was formed from part of Henderson in 1847, but was abolished in 1848.

Polk County was formed (again) from part of Henderson in 1855.

Transylvania County was formed from part of Henderson in 1861.

Status of Records

As far as I know, Henderson County has suffered no major record losses.

I have been to and through Henderson County once or twice, but have never made it to the Court House to do any research. All my research there (so far) has been "remote" via the NC Archives or via published records.
