Formation and Divisions

Macon County was created in 1828 from Haywood County.

Cherokee County was formed from part of Macon in 1839.

Jackson County was formed from part of Macon in 1851.

Swain County was formed from part of Macon in 1871.


Status of Records

As far as I know, Macon County has suffered no major record losses.

I have been to and through Macon County many times. I have been to the Court House, and found it to be nicely organized.
