Mecklenburg County, North CarolinaFormation and Divisions | Status of Records | My Ancestral Names | Web Links | Books Available Formation and DivisionsMecklenburg County was created in 1762 from Anson County. Tryon County was formed from part of Mecklenburg in 1768. Cabarrus County was formed from part of Mecklenburg in 1792. Union County was formed from part of Mecklenburg in 1842.. Status of RecordsAs far as I know, Mecklenburg County has suffered no major record losses. I have been to and through Mecklenburg County many times, but have never made it to the Court House to do any research. However, I did go to the Public Library and found they had a large Genealogy section. They had quite a number of books, but for some reason, they were in no apparent order, so therefore, it was very difficult to locate anything. That was several years ago, and hopefully they have fixed this by now.
