History (Formation and Divisions)

Pickens District was created in 1826 from Pendleton District.

"Pickens District" became "Pickens County" in 1868.

Oconee County was formed from part of Pickens in 1868.

Availability and Location of Records

Pickens County has suffered no major records losses as far as I know.

Census records available: (for 1790 thru 1830 see Pendleton District): 1840 thru 1930 records are all extant (excepting 1890)
