Formation and Divisions

Anson County was created in 1750 from the western part of Bladen County. Until Mecklenburg County was formed in 1762, Anson covered all of western NC (except for the northern part contained in Rowan County).

Rowan County was formed from part of Anson in 1753.

Mecklenburg County was formed from part of Anson in 1762.

Montgomery County was formed from part of Anson in 1778.

Richmond County was formed from part of Anson in 1779.

Union County was formed from part of Anson in 1842.

Status of Records

Anson County had a massive record loss in 1868 due to fire.

I have not done much research in this county (as of September 2000). I have driven through Anson County a few times, but never stopped at the Court House.
