Watauga County was formed from part of Ashe in 1849. Alleghany County was formed from part of Ashe in 1859. Status of RecordsAs far as I know, Ashe County has suffered no major record losses. I have visited Ashe County only once, but I did not go to the Court House (it was a Sunday). I have viewed some records at the NC archives on microfilm.
