Buncombe County, North CarolinaFormation and Divisions | Status of Records | My Ancestral Names | Web Links | Books for sale Formation and DivisionsBuncombe County was created in 1791 from the western parts of Burke and Rutherford Counties. Haywood County was formed from part of Buncombe in 1808. Yancey County was formed from part of Buncombe in 1833. Henderson County was formed from part of Buncombe in 1838. Madison County was formed from part of Buncombe in 1851. Status of RecordsAs far as I know, Buncombe County has suffered no major record losses. Some records have disappeared (like the early marriage bonds). I have been to and through Buncombe County too many times to count. However, I have only been there once on a "research trip". I did not go to the Court House, but I did make it to the Old Buncombe Genealogical Society, which I found very helpful. My Ancestral Names from this County
