Duplin County, North CarolinaFormation and Divisions | Status of Records | My Ancestral Names | Web Links | Books Available Formation and DivisionsDuplin County was created in 1750 from New Hanover County. Sampson County was formed from part of Duplin in 1784. Status of RecordsDuplin County has suffered no major record losses, as far as I know. One curious fact is that when Sampson County was created from Duplin in 1784, all the old records (1750-1784) went to the new County. So any Duplin County records from 1750-1784 are not found in the Duplin Court House, but in the Sampson Court House. I have been to and through Duplin County many times, but have never made it to the Court House to do any research. I've been to the Court House though, but not for research.
