Johnston County, North CarolinaFormation and Divisions | Status of Records | My Ancestral Names | Web Links | Books Available Formation and DivisionsJohnston County was created in 1746 from Craven County. Orange County was formed from part of Johnston in 1752. Dobbs County was formed from part of Johnston in 1758. Wake County was formed from part of Johnston in 1770. Wilson County was formed from part of Johnston in 1855. Status of RecordsJohnston County has suffered no major record losses, as far as I know, except that many of the records from 1746-1758 timeframe were transferred to Dobbs County when it was created, and those records have been lost. I've been to Johnston County many times. The Court House is very nice. The public library also has a nice Genealogy section upstairs in two rooms by itself.
