Formation and Divisions

Lenoir County was created in 1791 from Dobbs County.

Status of Records

Lenoir County has suffered massive record losses, due to two Court House fires in the 1870's.

I live in Lenoir County, and have been to the Court House many times. Although no old records are found there (few before the 1870's), it is well organized, and quite nice. For older records, you should visit Heritage Place at Lenoir Community College. This is a large full fledged genealogy library, and has quite a lot of old records and books.
