Guilford County was formed from part of Rowan in 1770. Surry County was formed from part of Rowan in 1770. Burke County was formed from part of Rowan in 1777. Iredell County was formed from part of Rowan in 1788. Davidson County was formed from part of Rowan in 1822. Davie County was formed from part of Rowan in 1836. Status of RecordsRowan County has not suffered any major records losses, as far as I know. I've been to and through Rowan County a number of times, but never stopped for any research. I understand that the Genealogy Library in Salisbury (the County Seat) is one of the best in the state.
