Buncombe County was formed from part of Rutherford in 1791. Cleveland County was formed from part of Rutherford in 1841. McDowell County was formed from part of Rutherford in 1842 Polk County was formed from part of Rutherford in 1847, and abolished in 1848. Polk County was formed (again) from part of Rutherford in 1855. Status of RecordsRutherford County has not suffered any major records losses as far as I know, though some early records are no longer extant.
