Formation and Divisions

Wayne County was created in 1779 from Dobbs County.

Wilson County was formed from part of Wayne in 1855.

Status of Records

Wayne County has not suffered any major records losses as far as I know. Some early records are missing for some reason (marriage bonds for example).

I've been to Wayne County many times. The Court House is well organized (and recently renovated). The Public Library has a very nice Local History and Genealogy room with a good collection.
