Ashe County was formed from part of Wilkes in 1799. Caldwell County was formed from part of Wilkes in 1841. Alexander County was formed from part of Wilkes in 1847. Watauga County was formed from part of Wilkes in 1849. Status of RecordsWilkes County has not suffered any major records losses as far as I know. I've been to Wilkes County a couple of times, but never to the Court House or Library.
