History (Formation and Divisions)

Horry District was created in 1801 from Georgetown District, encompassing the former Kingston County section of Georgetown.

In 1868 all South Carolina "Districts" were re-designated "Counties", thus Horry District became Horry County.

Availability and Location of Records

Horry County has suffered no major records losses as far as I know.

Census records available: 1810 thru 1930 records are all extant excepting 1890
