History (Formation and Divisions)
Pendleton County was created in 1789 as a division (no government) of Ninety-Six District and continued as a geographic division of Ninety-six until 1791.
In 1791, Pendleton County was annexed to Washington District.
In 1798, "Pendleton County" became "Pendleton District" and no longer part of Washington District.
In 1826, Pendleton District was abolished by being divided into Anderson and Pickens Districts.

Availability and Location of Records
Pendleton District records are still mostly available, as far as I know, having been transferred to Anderson District, I think, or both Anderson and Pickens.
Census records available: 1790 thru 1820 records are all extant
