Welcome to my Smith web pages! I am interested in the Smith families of Carter Co., TN. Since this is one of the most common names I do not research it in other areas, only Carter County. My line:

Edward Smith (c1720-1807) and Catherine --- of Carter Co., TN.

- Jacob Smith (c175?-1823) and Mary Dugger of Carter Co., TN.

-- Celia Smith (1794-1885) and Charles N. George of TN and NC.

I am interested in other Smiths in Carter County whether related to me or not (1700s through ca 1860). Check them out on my Documented Family Pages.

Note: Emma B. Reaves (deceased) wrote a book on the Smith families of Carter County titled Tennessee Smithology. It is an excellent book, though long out of print. As with all books it has some errors, but it is well worth perusing if you can find a copy. The existence of this book is one reason I have done very little with the Smith section of my website. Much of the family has already been well researched, why should I re-invent the wheel?
