My Wood Family - John Wood (d ca 1808) and Sarah --- of SC (Marion County)Home > Genealogy > Surnames > Wood > My Family Introduction - A History of my research on this family My Wood Family - Data on my Wood ancestors IntroductionI discovered my Wood ancestry in 2001. I knew about my ancestor James James for quite awhile, but did not know who his wife was. After perusing the books "Probates Records, Marion County, South Carolina", Volumes I, II and III, (by Lucille Utley and Danny Smith), I discovered the Will of John Wood showing his daughter "Ann James". The Will did not give Ann's husband's first name, but James James was a witness to the Will. Subsequent discoveries showed that James James was closely associated with the Wood family, and they were neighbors. All this lead me to believe that this Ann Wood James was my ancestor, and wife of my James James. I'm still not 100% sure that this is correct, but I'm at least 90% sure, so I'm following through with research on this Wood family. I discovered that the name "Wood" was not a common one in early Marion, and my on family seems to be the only one. There were some Woods in the county also, but I don't know if they are the same family, or if the names are interchangeable. My Wood ancestorsMy earliest known ancestor was John Wood. I don't know when he was born, but he made his Will in 1808 naming wife Sarah and children, including daughter Ann James. Ann Wood married James James sometime before 1808 in Marion Dist, SC. I have set up several web pages, each containing documentation, for different branches of this family. Follow the links below for more information.
