Bryson Genealogy - PA, NC, SC, GA

Welcome to my Bryson web pages. Alternate spellings include Brison and Brisson.

My most recent Bryson ancestor is Elizabeth Bryson (1787-c1872) who married William Cathey. She was born in Rowan (now Iredell) Co., NC and died in Swain Co., NC. In between she lived in Pendleton Dist., SC, Buncombe and Haywood Co., NC, Union (now Towns) Co., GA and Jackson Co., NC.

Elizabeth is a child of Andrew Bryson (c1752-1835) and his first wife Agnes Nail (Neal) who married 1783 in Rowan (now Iredell) Co., NC. Andrew was born in Lancaster Co., PA and died in Haywood (now Jackson) Co., NC.

Andrew Bryson is a son of William Bryson (c1720-aft 1790) and Isabella Holmes.  William's parents have not been identified (despite what you might see in various books and web pages). Tradition says he came from County Antrim, Ireland (Northern Ireland).

There were numerous Brysons in Pennsylvania early on. I've done very little work on them. Many Brysons migrated to North Carolina and other states.
