I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to John A. Jenkins, but I'm sure he is somehow related to my ancestor Osborne Jenkins (c1803).

John A. Jenkins was born ca 1816/17 (per 1860 census) or ca 1823/24 per the 1850 census, though I believe the 1860 census is more accurate. He was presumably born in Onslow County, in the area that later became Stump Sound Township. I don't know what his middle initial of "A" stands for.

John is a proven son of James Jenkins (c1780) and Nancy --- as named in James' 1851 Will.

John was apparently home with his parents for the 1820 census, aged "under 10" (born ca 1810/20), and apparently home with them in 1830, aged 10-14 (born ca 1815/20), and apparently still home in 1840, aged 20-29 (born ca 1810/20).

John A. Jenkins married Charlotte --- before ca 1842 in Onslow Co, NC. I didn't find a marriage record for them, and so far, I have no clues as to her maiden name.

On 27 Jun 1842 Elijah Beasley deeded something to John A. Jenkins. I don't have the details of this deed yet. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 24 page 306)

On 4 Jan 1843 Burgess and Clarissa Williams deeded something to John A. Jenkins. I don't have the details of this deed yet. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 24 page 393)

On 23 Feb 1847 Elijah Beasley deeded something to John Jenkins. I don't know if it was this John, or if it was John Jenkins (c1818). I don't have the details of this deed yet. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 25 page 423)

The family was listed in Stump Sound District in Onslow County, NC on the 1850 census just a few houses from his parents, and only 2 from his brother George W. Jenkins (c1816).

John was named in his father's 1851 Will.

On 26 Nov 1851 Hill King deeded something to Ankrum Jenkins and his brother John Jenkins. I don't have the details of this deed yet. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 26 page 452)

On 22 Aug 1857 Samuel J. Hardison deeded something to John A. Jenkins. I don't have the details of this deed yet. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 28 page 140)

John and family were listed on the 1860 census in Stump Sound next door to his widowed mother.

On 25 Jul 1860  Joseph M. Ennett deeded some property to Charlotty Jenkins. I do not have the details of this deed yet. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 29 page 80).

John A. Jenkins died ca 1864 for that was the date on his Estate File. He was too old for Civil War service, though he could have died as a result of the war. His estate record may contain valuable information, but I have not looked at it yet. It is on file at the North Carolina Archives in the Loose Estates for Onslow County. I'd bet he died ca 1860 and before July 1860, for that is the date his wife received a deed from Joseph M. Ennett. Normally a deed would be to the man of the family, unless the grantor was her father or close relation.

Charlotte and family were listed on the 1870 census in Stump Sound Township.
