I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to John Jenkins, but I'm sure he is somehow closely related to my ancestor Osborne Jenkins (c1803).
John Jenkins was born between 1726 and 1764, based on his age on the 1786 state census which lists him as age 21-60 (born ca 1726-1765) and a 1785 deed that he witnessed, and the assumption that he was at least 21 then, so born before 1764. I'd imagine his birth date was much closer to 1764 than to 1726. He was presumably born in Onslow County, North Carolina.
I don't know who John Jenkins's parents were, in fact I have only found two records for this John Jenkins so far, and that is a 1785 deed and the 1786 state census. This does not give me enough information to draw any conclusions about his possible parentage.
On 22 Sep 1785, John Jenkins and Richard Williams witnessed a deed from Richard Barner to James Lane. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book O page 12, from Records of Onslow County, North Carolina, Vol I by Zae Harget Gwynn).
John Jenkins was listed on the 1786 state census. This record would seem to indicate that he was married, but with no kids yet, so probably only recently married. I have not found a record of his wife's name.

The 1786 census is the last record I've found for John Jenkins in Onslow County. He either died or moved away shortly after 1786.
John Jenkins and wife had no children with them as of the 1786 census.
