Moore Genealogy - Western North Carolina, Upper West South Carolina, Northern Georgia
Welcome to my Moore web pages. I have two sets of Moore ancestors who don't appear to be related to one another.
My first Moore line begins with Jane Moore (c1815-1867) who married Samuel Patterson 1830 in Macon Co., NC. They moved to Union Co., GA just afterwards. Jane is a daughter of Joseph Moore (c1787-aft 1860) and Rebecca (---) who married ca 1805 in Pendleton Dist., SC (now Pickens Co., SC). Joseph is a son of Burt Moore (c1756-1836) and his first wife a Miss Bruce. Burt's parents are unproven. He was born in Halifax Co., VA and came to SC when young.
My second Moore line begins with Elizabeth Moore (c1789-1860) who married Benjamin Tutt ca 1810 in Buncombe Co., NC. She is a daughter of Capt. William H. Moore (c1726-1812) and Margaret Patton, who married 1774 in Rowan Co., NC. William was born in Ulster, Ireland (now Northern Ireland), though his parents are unknown. He had a brother Charles Moore (c1727-c1805) who died in Spartanburg Dist., SC.
Since this is such a very common name my interest is limited to selected counties in Western North Carolina, Upper West South Carolina and Northern Georgia (and Eastern Tennessee to a lesser extent).
Moore DNA Project - Use DNA testing to break down your genealogical brick walls and find out which genetic branch of the family you are part of. Click link for details. I'm not involved in the Moore project, but I highly recommend it. A couple of Burt Moore descendants have tested, though no one from the William H. Moore line has tested yet.
Moore is the 9th most common surname in America. (Source: Name Statistics)
