Welcome to my Scarborough genealogy pages. I am interested in the Scarborough surname in Virginia, specifically in Surry County.

Scarborough is not a common surname in the United States. It didn’t rank in the top 1000 in either 2000 or 2010.

Scarbrough, Scarboro and Scarbro are some modern day variants of the Scarborough surname. There were other variations in 1600s and 1700s.

My most recent Scarborough ancestor is my 7 times great grandmother Mary Scarborough (c1695-1783) of Surry and Brunswick Co., VA. She married Daniel Dugger before ca 1717. She is a proven daughter of:

Edward Scarborough (c1670-c1717) and Ann —, who married ca 1691 in Surry Co., VA. Edward is a son of:

William Scarborough (d 1676) and Amy —, who married ca 1666 in Surry Co., VA. William took part in Bacon’s Rebellion against the Virginia Governor, an action which resulted in him being hanged for treason. Amy was married before to Walter Holdsworth, and after to Thomas Tias.

I don’t have information yet on who William’s parents were.
