Welcome to my Jenkins genealogy pages. I am interested in the Jenkins surname in Onslow Co., NC where they resided since the 1730s.

Jenkins was the 95^th most common surname in the United States per the 2000 census. It had dropped to 102^nd by 2010.

My most recent Jenkins ancestor is my 3^rd Great Grandmother Sarah Jenkins, who was born ca 1831 in Onslow Co., NC. She married Joseph Watson in Onslow in 1851. He died shortly after they married, leaving her with a son, my ancestor William H. Watson. Sarah married again in 1862 to George H. Jenkins, a much older cousin. She had no children with him. Sarah is a proven daughter of:

Osborne Jenkins, alias Auza, Uzza, etc. He was born ca 1803 in Onslow Co., NC. He married Ann, maiden name unknown, ca 1824 in Onslow. He died in 1856, Ann in 1862. Osborne’s parents are not proven, but I suspect he is a son of:

Lewis Jenkins was born ca 1770/74 in Onslow Co., NC. He married Sarah Beasley in Onslow in 1794. They both seem to have died in the 1830s. I don’t know who his parents were. There were several Jenkins in the area when he was born who were old enough to be his father. I do suspect he’s a brother of John Jenkins (1770s) and James Jenkins (c1780).
