!AFFIDAVIT:25 Oct 1850 Monroe Co, TN Charles N. GEORGE "This day personally appeared before me, William BURNS an Acting Justice of the Peace for McMinn, Tenn, Charles N. GEORGE and fater being duly sworn according to Law, Says that he is of the age of Fifty nine years that he is the Identical Charles N. GEORGE who was called into the service of the United States in the month of January 1814, which was the second call from Tennessee for men to go out against the creek Indians and that he was mustered into Service for six months at Camp Williams over Knoxville, TN in the said month of of (sic) January on the tenth or Eleventh day of said month, under the command of Capt. William KING from Sullivan County, TN. Regiment of East Tennessee Militia, commanded by Col. Ewing Allison from Green County in Gen. George DAUGHERTY's brigade of East Tennessee Militia, and he said Charles N. GEORGE served out out (sic) the six months and was honorably discharged by sd Capt William KING of Sullivan County. That he never sold his discharge but the same is lost or misplaced so that he cannot find it, the said Chas N. GEORGE makes this declaration in order to Obtain Bounty land under an act of Congress passed 28th sep 1850, granting bounty land to the officers and soldiers of the war of 1812, with Great Brittain and Mexican War, 1846. Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 25th day of Oct 1850. I am personally aquanted with the above named Chas N. YOUNG of the Justice Court the same being a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Celia GEORGE, aged 83 years a resident of Valley Town, County of Cherokee, State of N.C. who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Chas Noden GEORGE, that her said husband served the fourteen days in the military service of the United States in the war of 1812; that he was the identical Charles N. GEORGE who volunteered under the name of Charles N. GEORGE in E. Tenn on the -- day of Feb A.D. 1814 as a Orderly Sergeant in Regiment commanded by Maj. Allen, Col Samuel BUNCH in the war of 1812 that he also --- and was honorably discharged at -- on the -- day of -- 1814 that he was in Battle of Horse Shoe Mar 27, 1814 and that he received a land Warrant for 160 acres. that she was married under the name of Celia SMITH to said Charles N. GEORGE on the 8th day of Feb 1816, by Julius DUGGER, Esq at Carter Co, Tenn, there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that her said husband died at Cherokee Co, N.C. on the 12 day of May 1869, and that she has not remarried since his death; that she will support the Constitution of the United States ..." DELANEY, citizin of Briston, County of Sullivan, State of Tenn. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid case, as follows: That he is 79 years of age and was present and witnessed the marriage of Chas N. GEORGE and Celia SMITH, February 8, 1816 at the residence of Jacob SMITH in Carter County, Tennessee and that they lived together as husband and wife to the death of the said Charles N. GEORGE which death occured about 9 years ago and that she still remains his widow. He further declares that he has no interest in said case and is not concerned in its prosecution. Signed: John R. Persons of lawfull age and well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, who being duly sworn, declare in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: That the following is a true and correct copy of the record of her marriage from her family Bible. "Charles Noden GEORGE son of James Jordan GEORGE and Elizabeth PEMBERTON was born tthe 21 day of November, A.D. 1791 and was married to Celia SMITH daughter of Jacob SMITH and Mary DUGGER the 8 day of February A.D. 1816 and Celia GEORGE as above was born November 17, A.D. 1794." That said record was made by C.N. GEORGE in the year not known and that said Bible was printed in the year not known. She further says that there is no public record of her marriage and that the person who married her and all the witnesses to the ceremony save one which is John R. DELANEY, are dead.
