My most recent James ancestor is Laura Virginia James (1840-1914) who married Daniel T. Turner in 1868 in Marion Co., SC. Virginia is a child of Pinkney J. James (1816-1907) and Sophia James (1819-1893).
Pinkney's parents are not proven but I think he is a son of James James (c1774-aft 1830) and Ann Wood. James James is a son of William James (c1750-c1790s) and Elizabeth Welch?
There were several James families in the Marion Co., SC region and many of them appear to be related to one another. There were several who arrived very early as part of the Welsh Settlement. I don't know if my James connect to them or not.
