Welcome to my Alden genealogy pages. I am interested in the Alden surname in Essex and Middlesex Co., VA. That area of interest may expand once I’ve learned more about my Alden ancestors. As of now I know very little.

Alden is generally an English surname. Alden didn’t make the Top 1000 most common surnames in the United States in either 2000 or 2010.

I have two connections into the same family via sisters Katherine and Mary Alden.

My eight times great grandmother, Katherine Alden (c1685-aft 1735), was born in Middlesex Co., VA. She married 1^st to John Tolbert (various spellings) in 1704. He died before 1716 in Essex Co., VA. She married 2^nd to my ancestor James Sams (c1690-c1726) ca 1715 in Essex Co., VA. She married 3^rd to Patrick Bolding ca 1727 in Spotsylvania Co., VA. She is a child of Robert and Eleanor (Willis) Alden.

My eight times great grandmother, Mary Alden (c1686-1734), sister of Katherine above, was born in Middlesex Co.,VA. She married Martin Nalle before ca 1705. Although there is no doubt Mary is my 8 times great aunt, I haven’t quite proven the connections that would make her my eight times great grandmother. It depends on whether or not Thomas Dillard (c1695-1774) and Winiford Nalle (d/o Mary and Martin) are my ancestors. I suspect they are, but haven’t proven it yet.

Robert Alden (bef c1655-1686) married Eleanor Willis before ca 1681, likely in Middlesex Co., VA or nearby. I don’t know who his parents were.

As of now (July 21, 2026), I’ve barely researched the Alden family, so I have very little information on them.
