Welcome to my Bryant genealogy pages. I am interested in the Bryant surname in Robeson Co., NC and Marion Co., SC and that general area.

Bryant is generally an English surname. Bryan is a common variant. Bryant was the 120^th most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped to a little to 128^th. Bryan was 542^nd in 2000 and 585^th in 2010.

My most recent Bryant ancestor is my 3 times Great Grandmother Sophia J. Bryant (1819-1893). She was born in Robeson Co., NC. She married Pinkney J. James (1816-1907) of Marion Co., SC ca late 1830s. They lived in Marion Co., SC the rest of their lives. Both are buried at the McMillan cemetery just east of Mullins.

I do not know who Sophia’s parents were, though there is a Sarah Bryant (c1790) just three houses from them on the 1850 census. This could be her mother, or if not, perhaps an aunt. I do not yet know if her Bryants are related to the large Bryant family in Marion Co., SC, but I’m interested in them too as I have numerous connections with them.
