Collins is generally of English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish origin.
Collins was the 52nd most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped to a little to 59th.
My most recent Collins ancestor is my 3 times Great Grandmother, Martha Collins (1811-1892) who was born in Marion Dist., SC and lived her entire life there. She married Daniel Turner (c1796-1860s) ca 1842. They had four children. Martha is a proven child of Jonah and Tabitha (—) Collins.
Jonah Collins (c1774-1854) married 1st to Tabitha (—) ca 1810 in Marion Dist., SC. She died in the 1820s, and he married a 2nd time by ca 1826 to Sarah (—). He had five children with Tabitha and 12 with Sarah, for 17 total!
I don’t know who Jonah’s parents were yet.
