Welcome to my Graham genealogy pages. I am interested in the Graham surname in Horry County, South Carolina.

Graham was the 108th most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped to 120th.

My most recent Graham ancestor is my four times great grandmother, Jane Graham (c1795-1860s) who married Pugh Floyd on 22 Sep 1813 in Horry Dist., SC.

Jane Graham is almost certainly a daughter of John Graham (1755/65-1811) and Martha. John named a daughter “Jennet” in his 1811 Will, and the same daughter witnessed the Will as “Jane.” Jennet was a common nickname for Jane in those days. In the Will John stated Jennet was under age, meaning under 21 (born ca 1790/1811), but to be old enough to be a witness she had to be at least 14, so born before ca 1797 which works since she was born 1795. If that isn’t proof enough, John’s granddaughter Sarah Graham Ward (daughter of John Jr) lived with Jane in 1860 (Sarah would be Jane’s niece) and with Jane’s daughter Celia in 1870 suggesting a very close relationship.

John Graham (1755/65) is a proven son of the oldest John in the area, John Graham (d aft 1778) and wife Mary Johnston.

I have another Graham line in western North Carolina, probably not related to my Grahams of Horry Co., SC.
