I (Marty Grant) am not related to Alfred Hinesley as far as I know.
This family often used the "Hinesley" or similar spelling. This probably suggests a connection to the Chatham Co, NC Hinesley family. (See Hensley Spellings for a commentary on this).
Alfred (or "Alford") Hinesley was born ca 1793/94 (per 1850 census) in South Carolina (per 1850 and 1860 census). I don't know what part of South Carolina he was from.
I don't know who Alfred's parents were. The spelling of the name strongly suggests that Alfred might be connected to the Chatham County, North Carolina family of the same name, but this is just speculation. There were just a few Hensley or Hinesley families in South Carolina when Alfred was born, so possible matches for his parents are few. One possible father for him is Thomas Hinesley (1761) who was born in Maryland, lived in Chatham Co, NC, and later went to Carroll Co, GA, where Alford eventually moved also.
For the 1800 census, Alfred would have been about 6 years old, so he should be enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1790/1800). However, it is unknown whether his family was still in South Carolina then, or had possibly moved to Georgia already. In South Carolina in 1800 there was Benjamin Hensley (bef 1755) in Greenville Dist, SC with two apparent sons that age. There were Hensleys in Laurens District also and in Pendleton District, but none seem to be likely suspects. If his family was already in Georgia by 1800, then there will be no census evidence as that census is lost for Georgia.
For the 1810 census, Alfred would have been about 16 years old, so he should be enumerated in either the age 16-25 category (born ca 1784/94) or in the 10-15 category (born ca 1794/1800). Since I don't know if he was still in SC, or in GA already, it is hard to say where he was. The 1810 Georgia census is lost, but in 1810 South Carolina there was "Martha Hansley" in Fairfield District with one son in each matching category, and there was Benjamin Hensley (bef 1755) in Greenville Dist, SC also with sons in both matching categories.
Interestingly, there is a marriage record in Cumberland Co, NC dated 1 May 1819 for "Alfred Hinsley" and Letia Elkins. This could be this same Alfred, but if so, I don't know what he was doing in Cumberland Co, NC.
Alfred did marry someone prior to 1820, for the 1820 census shows him in Wilkinson County, Georgia with an apparent wife (who was too old to be Nancy, his later wife) and an apparent young daughter born ca 1810/20.
The Cumberland County, North Carolina marriage record could be the same Alfred. If so, he and his new wife left NC in 1819 or early 1820 and moved to Wilkinson County, Georgia. Wilkinson is in central Georgia. They were listed there in 1820 between Jesse Birlingson and John Moorland Jr. No other Hinesleys were in the county. Perhaps coincidentally, or not, there was a "Young Elkins" in the county also, a few pages away, but listed near John Moorland Sr. Assuming that Alfred is the same one who married an Elkins in Cumberland Co, NC then moved to GA, this Young Elkins could be brother-in-law or other close relative (or not). (By 1830 Young Elkins had moved to Decatur Co, GA).

In 1821 Henry County, Georgia was created from Creek Indian lands just north west of Wilkinson County.
Sometime in the 1820's, Alford's first wife died, and he married Nancy --- either in Wilkinson or Henry County, Georgia. Nancy was born ca 1799/1800 in Georgia. I don't know her maiden name.
Sometime in the 1820's, Alford moved his family to Henry County and was listed there for the 1830 census. David S. Hensley (1790/1800) was also there that year, but not nearby. (I don't think the Hensley and Hinesley families are related). Alford was listed next to Anthony Crumbly Jr and Washington Teal. Alford had an older woman (born ca 1760/70) with him this year, who could easily be a widowed mother or mother-in-law.

Around 1833, Alford and family moved west to Carroll County, Georgia, where Thomas Hinesley (1761) was living and who died the following year. It is certainly reasonable to assume they are related, perhaps he is Alford's father, or an Uncle.
On 21 Nov 1833, Alford Hinesley purchased land from Valentine Burnett in Carroll Co, GA. (Carroll Co, GA Deed Book B page 341, published by Mary Florence Arthur Word, shared with me by Laura Schreibman).
Alford was listed on the 1840 census in Carroll Co, GA. There were several Hensley families there that year, but as I mentioned, I don't think Hensleys and Hinesleys are the same family, despite the similar names. I get the distinct impression that Alford's 1840 census entry is wrong, as there are several family members that should be with him who don't seem to be, so it has been difficult to reconcile this entry with his known family members.

Alford and family were on the 1850 census in Carroll County, Georgia, just a few houses from probable sons John and Thomas.

I didn't find them in 1880, and their unmarried children were residing together, so it would seem that both Alford and Nancy had died in the 1870-1880 timeframe.
Alford and his first wife had at least one child, and he had several by his second wife Nancy.
Unknown Son (1820/25) John J. Hinesley (c1823)
Unknown Son (1820/25) Thomas H. Hinesley (c1825)
Charles Marion Hinesley (c1832)
Unknown Daughter (1810/20). Alford Hinesley had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1820 (age "under 10", born ca 1810/20), but gone by 1830, so possibly dead or married by then.
Unknown Son (1820/25). Alford Hinesley had an apparent son this age with him in 1830 (age 5-9, born ca 1820/25), but gone by 1840, so possibly dead or married by then.
I feel quite sure that this is John J. Hinesley (c1823) who was just a few houses from Alford in 1850. See his own page for additional information. The only problem with including John in this family is that Alford seemed to have another son named John (see below). The younger one could be a grandson instead, or perhaps this older one doesn't belong to Alford at all.
Unknown Son (1820/25). Alford Hinesley had an apparent son this age with him in 1830 (age 5-9, born ca 1820/25), and still home in 1840 (age 10-14, born ca 1825/30), but gone by 185, so possibly dead or married by then.
I feel quite sure that this is Thomas H. Hinesley (c1825) who was just a few houses from Alford in 1850. See his own page for additional information.
Unknown Daughter (1825/30). Alford Hinesley had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1830 (age "under 5", born ca 1825/30), but gone by 1840, so possibly dead or married by then (or still home, but the 1840 census record is in error).
Unknown Daughter (1825/30). Alford Hinesley had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1830 (age "under 5", born ca 1825/30), but gone by 1840, so possibly dead or married by then (or still home, but the 1840 census record is in error).

Frances E. Hinesley was born ca 1830/31 in Georgia, probably Henry County. She was home with her parents in 1850, though listed as "Franklin" age 19. She was still home in 1860 ("Frances" age 27), and home in 1870 ("Francis" age 35). In 1880 she was living with her brother Alfred W. Hinesley, still in Carroll Co, GA ("Frances E." age 50). It would appear that she never married.
Charles Marion Hinesley was born ca 1831/32 in Henry or Carroll County, Georgia. He was home with his parents in 1850 ("Marion", age 8.)
On 23 Dec 1850, "Charles M. Hensley" married Mary L. D. Lambret (or is that Lambert?) in Carroll Co, GA. Mary was born ca 1835/36 in Georgia. I don't know who her parents are.
They moved to Winston County, Alabama in the 1850's and were there for the 1860 census, living next door to sister Nancy and her husband Robert Horsley. A "Mary S. Hinsley" age 25 was with them, and I can only assume she was Charles' sister, though no one of that name had been with his parents back in 1850.

I don't have them in 1870 yet, but probably still in Winston County.
They were still in Winston for the 1880 census next to brother James J. Hinesley (c1823). His brother Morris was living with him. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Mary S. Hinesley was born ca 1834/35 in Carroll County, Georgia. I'm not sure if she actually belongs in this family. She was not with Alford and Nancy in 1850, but she was living with Charles M. Hinesley in 1860. It is possible that she was not a sister of his, but a cousin or other relation. I have no record of her after 1860.
Nancy Ann M. Hinesley was born ca 1835/36 in Carroll County, Georgia. She was home with her parents in 1850 ("Nancy" age 14).
On 20 Mar 1856, "Nancy Ann M. Hinsley" married Robert R. Horsely in Carroll Co, GA. Robert was born ca 1837/38 in South Carolina. I don't know who his parents were.
Sometime ca 1859-1860, they moved to Winston County, Alabama and were listed there on the 1860 census next door to Nancy's brother Charles M. Hinesley.

I don't have them in 1870.
By 1880 they were back in Carroll Co, GA they had two apparent Hinesley nephews residing with them (sons of her brother Thomas). ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Orrey Hinesley was born ca 1837/38 in Carroll County, Georgia. He was home with his parents in 1850 ("Orrey", age 8). He was not found in 1860.
Elizabeth C. Hinesley was born ca 1839/40 in Carroll County, Georgia. She was home with her parents in 1850 ("Elizabeth", age 10. She was still home in 1860 ("Elizabeth" age 19), and home in 1870 ("Elizabeth" age 27). In 1880 she was living with her brother Alfred W. Hinesley, still in Carroll Co, GA ("E. C." age 42). It would appear that she never married.
Alfred W. Hinesley was born ca 1841/42 in Carroll County, Georgia. He was home with his parents in 1850 ("Alfred", age 8. He was still home in 1860 ("Alfred W." age 17), but not home in 1870.
In 1880, Alfred was head of household with his sisters Frances and Elizabeth living with him in Carroll County, Georgia. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
John M. Hinesley was born ca 1843/44 in Carroll County, Georgia. He was home with his parents in 1850 ("John M", age 6). He was not found in 1860.
Sarah Hinesley was born ca 1845/46 in Carroll County, Georgia. She was home with her parents in 1850 ("Sarah", age 4). She was not found in 1860.
Morris J. Hinesley was born ca 1848/49 in Carroll County, Georgia. He was home with his parents in 1850 ("Morris", age 1). He was not found in 1860 or 1870, but in 1880 he was in Winston Co, AL with his brother Charles.
