When I first learned of my Hensley ancestry, I thought it would be an easy name to research, as I had never heard it before, so I assumed it wasn't that common. Boy was I wrong! I have identified hundreds (perhaps thousands) of Hensley families throughout the United States prior to the 1860's, and so far no one has been able to tie all of them together, at least not with traditional research. It seems likely that the vast majority of these Hensleys have a common ancestor somewhere, probably an early immigrant to America, or perhaps the common ancestry is way back in England. The Hensley DNA study has shown that most of the American Hensley families are indeed of the same lineage. I have created this page as a general commentary about the family with links to specific articles or studies that might be of interest. This page will be continuously under construction. Let me know if you would like to contribute and article or provide a link to one already on the web somewhere. Ruthe Muench Collection - Ruthe spent decades researching the Hensleys. Her life's work is being made available for viewing or downloading. It is a work in progress. What is in a name? - Why are there so many Hensleys named: Benjamin, Enoch, Larkin, Ichabod, etc. Is this proof they are all related? Spellings - Hensley, Hensly, Henslee, Hensleigh, Hinsley, Hinesly, Hinesley, Hansley, etc. "A People Called Hensley" by Rev. Walter Lee Hensley - I suppose he meant well, but this is the worst genealogy book I've ever seen! Do not use any information from this book, it is almost entirely incorrect, and seems to have been made up out of thin air. If you have Hensleys back to the 1500's, and it isn't your own documented research, then it probably came from this book originally. Trust me, it is wrong.
