David P. Hensley (c1813) and Amanda E. Williford of Carroll Co, GA and Saline Co, AR

I (Marty Grant) am not related to David P. Hensley as far as I know.

This family also used the "Henslee" spelling just as often as the "Hensley" spelling.

David P. Hensley was born ca 1812/13 (per 1850 census) in North Carolina (per 1850 ). He was probably born in Rockingham County. I don't know what the "P" initial stood for, though it could be "Payne", which was his probable grandmother's maiden name.

It seems very likely that David is a son of Enoch Hensley and Amy Houston, but I don't have solid proof for that, but David did follow Enoch through several counties and two states, and Enoch did have an apparent son his age, and David did name one of his sons "Mackfield" which was Enoch's grandfathers name, thus connecting him to the same general family. Also, "David" was Enoch's fathers name.

David Hensley would have been about 7 years old by the time of the 1820 census, so if listed he should be in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20), but his father Enoch was in Franklin Co, GA that year, and that census is lost.

For the 1830 census, David would have been about 17 years old, so he should be enumerated in the age 15-19 category (born ca 1810/15), and Enoch Hensley did have two apparent sons that age.

For the 1840 census, David would have been about 27 years old, so he should be enumerated in the age 20-29 category (born ca 1810/20), and Enoch Hensley did have an apparent son that age.

On 7 Mar 1841, David P. Hensley married Amanda E. Williford in Carroll Co, GA.  Amanda was born ca 1822/23 in Georgia. I don't know who her parents were.

Sometime between 1841 and 1844, David and family moved to Alabama, possibly Cherokee County where many relatives already lived. They remained in Alabama until ca 1849 or so, when they moved to Saline County, Arkansas where other Hensleys had already moved.

David and family were on the 1850 census in Saline County just three houses away from his father.
