Solomon G. Hensley was born 1810/11 per his age on the 1860 census (49). He was born in Virginia per the same source, county unknown.

I don't know who Solomon's parents were. There was an older Solomon Hensley who married Evah Hickman in Franklin on 9 Mar 1800. The name and location suggests a connection. The older Solomon could be the father of this one, or perhaps an uncle at least.

There were no Hensleys listed in Franklin Co., VA on the 1810 census, nor any there in 1820 or 1830. That suggests that Solomon G. Hensley wasn't a native to Franklin but moved there from elsewhere.

On 2 Dec 1833 Solomon G. Hensley obtained a marriage bond in Franklin Co., VA to marry Catherine Kinsey, daughter of Jacob Kinsey. Cornelius Kinsey was bondsman. They were married by Moses Greer.

Catherine Kinsey was born ca 1812/13 in Virginia, daughter of Jacob Kinsey (per marriage bond). I don't know the mother's name. Jacob Kinsey (1770/80) is listed on the 1840 census in Franklin. I didn't find him in 1830 or in 1850.

Solomon is listed on the 1840 census in Franklin County, the only Hensley there at that time.

I wasn't able to find them on the 1850 census. They should have been in Franklin Co., VA, but were not listed. No other Hensleys were listed there in 1850 either.

They were "back" in Franklin for the 1860 census, the only Hensleys in the county.

By 1870 they had moved into neighboring Roanoke County, Virginia and were listed there on that census. They were the only Hensleys in the county. There is an unidentified Elizabeth Hensley age 20 (born ca 1850) living with them. She is listed after the younger children so probably not a daughter herself. She may be a niece.

I didn't find Solomon or his wife Catherine on the 1880 census. I found their sons James and Charles still in Roanoke Co., VA that year. Son John was in neighboring Montgomery County in 1880.

Children of Solomon G. Hensley and Catherine Kinsey. The 1860 and 1870 census records show six children. The 1840 census shows two daughters who are unidentified.
