I (Marty Grant) am not related to William G. Hensley as far as I know.

William G. Hensley was born 18 Nov 1813 in Maury County, Tennessee, (now Lewis County). His birth date and birth place were given in an obituary dated 11 Oct 1894 in the Christian Advocate, Nashville, Tennessee (per records of Laura Schreibman). The same obituary gives a lot of information about his life as a preacher.

William G. Hensley is a son of William Hensley (c1785) and Nancy Gardner, as stated in the above mentioned obituary (which only gave his father's name as "William", not mentioning his mother).

William G. Hensley was apparently home with his parents for the 1820 census in Maury Co, TN age "under 10", (born ca 1810/20).

William G. Hensley was also apparently home with his parents for the 1830 census in Maury Co, TN age 15-19 (born ca 1810/15).

William G. Hensley was not home with his parents in 1840, nor listed as head of household himself. He was probably off with another family, or perhaps in School somewhere.

"William G. Hensley" married Ursula A. Simpson, in Lauderdale County, Alabama on 10 Sep 1843 (per marriage record). Ursula was born ca 1821/22 (per 1850 census) in Alabama (per 1850 census). She was a daughter of Thomas Simpson as proven by his 1859 Will in Limestone Co, AL (per records of Laura Schreibman).

William and Ursula and family were listed on the 1850 census in Giles County, Tennessee, which borders Limestone County, Alabama, so perhaps they lived near the state and county line. No other Hensleys were in Giles County that year, though many were in bordering Lewis County, Tennessee, including many of William's close relatives.

For the 1860 census, William and family were in neighboring Limestone County, Alabama:

I don't have them in 1870 yet, but they may have still been in Limestone County, AL that year.

By 1880, they had moved to Davidson County, Tennessee (Nashville) and were listed there on the census that year. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

William G. Hensley died sometime before 11 Oct 1894 (date of obituary), presumably in Davidson County, Tennessee. His obituary was more of a biography, and did not give names of wife or children.

I don't know when (or where) Ursula Simpson Hensley died, but she was still alive in 1880.

Children

William and Ursula had at least eight children per the various census records. I don't have much additional data on any of them.
