I (Marty Grant) don't know how (or if) I'm related to Silas Jenkins, but I'm sure he is somehow closely associated with the White Onslow County Jenkins families.
This is a black ("African-American") Family. They were listed with a race code of "B" on each of the census records I've found.
Silas Jenkins was born ca 1844/45, but I'm not sure if that is accurate, for his age was vastly different on each census record. In 1870 he was "25", or born ca 1844/45; in 1880 he was "30" or born ca 1849/50, in 1900 he as "60", and reported as born in March 1840. He was presumably born in Onslow County.
It is probably a safe assumption that Silas Jenkins was born a slave to some Onslow County Jenkins family, and after Emancipation, kept the "Jenkins" surname. I do not know what particular family he was associated with, nor who his parents were. He and his wife and children were the only black Jenkins that were living in Onslow County through 1900. If he had relatives, they must have moved away, or changed their surname.
Silas Jenkins married Lucinda --- (or "Linda") sometime before ca 1869, presumably in Onslow County. I'm not sure if her name is "Lucinda" or "Linda", for in 1870 she was "Linda" and in 1880 she was "Lucinda". I don't know her maiden name.
The first record I've found for Silas was his entry on the 1870 census. He was in Stump Sound Township just a few houses from the widow Charlotte Jenkins family, as well as several other Jenkins.

Silas and family were listed on the 1880 census in Stump Sound near many of the other Jenkins families, but next door to Benjamin Jenkins.

Lucinda apparently died between 1880 and 1900, for Silas was listed on the 1900 census by himself, and listed as a widower. None of his children were home either, nor did I find them elsewhere (at least not in Stump Sound Township).

I have no additional data on Silas Jenkins.
Silas Jenkins and wife Lucinda had at least six children per the 1870 and 1880 census records. I have no additional data on any of them so far.
